St. John Ambulance volunteers are on duty at many events throughout Norfolk. We are the nation’s leading first aid charity offering training courses, advice and volunteering opportunities; saving lives and keeping communities safe. In Norfolk 100 people have joined during the past year and 42,000 hours of service have been given. Cadets and Badgers have made great achievements including attending a major incident training weekend and residential leadership courses enabling some of them to become medical professionals in time.
Working with the NHS Blood and Transplant Service the Order of St. John UK Award for Organ Donation honours the incredible gift people make by donating their organs to save and improve lives of others. An annual ceremony is held jointly with Suffolk to personally thank and honour donors through their families.
In Norfolk, St John Ambulance provides a Hospital Library Service currently active in hospitals in North Walsham and King’s Lynn but soon to expand to others in the county. Apart from handing out books the volunteers have time to chat to patients and this is a greatly appreciated service.
Apart from some specialised contracts the charity receives no government money and therefore raising funds is vital to our work. So many of you have supported our Open Garden programme in the past and we are very grateful. Please continue to visit these lovely private gardens open through the generosity of the owners. Please be aware that toilet facilities and wheelchair access may be limited
