Sunday 15th May Open 12 to 5pm
ELMHAM HOUSE and SILVERSTONE FARM North Elmham, Dereham, NR20 5JY and NR20 5EX An opportunity to see two completely different gardens only a couple of miles apart. Elmham House is set in parkland with a shrubbery of azaleas, rhododendrons and many specimen trees. The 18th century walled garden has a collection of old English apples with other fruit, part of it is a working vegetable garden. Terraces and lawns surround the house and a recently restored ice-house (1760) will be open as will the dovecote and venison larder (both 1840) -the latter is now a chapel alongside the Walsingham pilgrimage route. In complete contrast the dramatic garden at Silverstone Farm is the creation of George Carter, the well known designer and author, which has featured in magazines and on television. The garden is based on both Dutch and English 17th century prototypes using plants of the time with the addition of fountains, lawns, a pool and wonderfully clipped hedges. It is mostly green, incredibly peaceful and with a theatrical feel. Directions; Elmham House is at the north end of the village opposite the Church on the B1110. Silverstone Farm is north of the B1145 at Brisley on the Gately road where signs will be in place. There will also be signs between the two gardens.
